Hatfield Wins Union County GOP Line

After winning the Union County line at today’s Republican convention at Westfield High School, Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield issued the following statement.

“I am honored that the Union County Committee has chosen to support me as I pursue  the Republican nomination to represent  New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District, “ said Dr. Hatfield. “I promise that I will wage a campaign that you will be proud of, as I continue the journey to the June primary and than on to defeat the Democratic candidate, Linda Stender, in November.”

Recognizing the other candidates as worthy competitors Hatfield said “all are very special people as evidenced by their presence here today; it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there for public scrutiny”.

With the most registered Republican voters in the seventh district, the Union County win propels Hatfield to the front of the pack of contenders. Saying she is totally up to the challenge as the candidate with not only the best qualifications for the job but with a proven record of success in public service, Hatfield pledges to represent all the towns in the 7th District when she goes to Washington. Acknowledging that the 7th CD is probably one of the most diverse in New Jersey including parts of Union, Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon counties, Hatfield says that her background of winning races in Democratic Union County is a testimony to her ability to appeal to not only Republicans but to Independent and some Democratic voters as well.

A thirty year resident of Summit Dr. Hatfield was elected to three terms on the city’s Common Council. She served as Council President, Mayor Pro Tempore and as Chair of the Public Finance Committee during all three terms. She also served 6 years on the Summit Board of Education including terms as President and Vice President and was appointed to the NJ Legislative Special Education Funding Task Force. She is currently on the Board of Directors of Bethel Ridge, an organization providing support for persons with developmental disabilities.

Hatfield is an advocate for lower taxes and believes that the proposed Republican tax cuts need to be made permanent, “our government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow families to keep more of the money they earn”, she says. “As a local elected official I had to balance a budget.  If families and towns have to balance their budget, so should Congress.”
