Families in NJ Struggling to Meet Costs of Everyday Living
Hatfield to Hold the Line on Taxes

New Jersey residents are now paying over $4.00 for a gallon of milk that was $3.50 last summer and according to reports released by the Labor Department just yesterday consumer prices rose last year the fastest in 17 years.

“Here in NJ our hard working families are paying an average of 4.8 percent more for food today than just one year ago combine that with the increases in property taxes, rising fuel costs and the price of healthcare it has become prohibitive just to cover basic survival costs,” said Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield, Republican candidate for Congress in the 7th District.

“How tragic it would be for Americans to wake up on January 1, 2010 to be faced with massive tax hikes, which is exactly what, would happen unless a true bipartisan effort is not made now to make the president’s tax cuts permanent.” Hatfield commented. Admitting that this appears to be wishful thinking because of the current climate in Washington Hatfield went on to say, “both sides need to get together to work out at the minimum a short-term stimulus package which could include creating tax incentives for businesses to help them create jobs and putting less money into social welfare spending.”

“This is especially critical for NJ residents who have the governor with his proposed toll hikes, which would increase consumer costs further, breathing down their necks and possible cuts in aid to municipalities in his upcoming budget, which of course translates into higher property taxes”, she said.

Knowing first hand the impact high property taxes, federal taxes, state taxes, excessive fees and over regulation have on our families and our communities Hatfield has signed the Americans for Tax Reforms “Taxpayer Protection Pledge”.

“I have promised the residents of the 7th District that I will not raise taxes in any way shape or form and as their Representative in Washington, I will continue to speak out and to fight against government waste and out of control spending” she stated.
