P. Kelly Hatfield, candidate for Congress in the 7th District, says that Governor Jon Corzine’s “Tough Love” plan for New Jersey is just another way to disguise the Democrats addiction to overspending in the Garden State. Rather than confront the real issue, NJ’s ever increasing debt brought on by out of control spending, the governor is once again looking to the taxpayer’s pockets as a solution. Raising tolls on the parkway, turnpike and expressway as well as adding new ones is just another way of increasing taxes on those who can least afford it, commented Hatfield.

“Just who is going to be paying this new road tax?” she asked. Hatfield pointed out that the governors plan is especially unfair to the residents she seeks to represent as two of the roads in question traverse the 7th District.

Corzine’s plan, calling for a 50% Toll Hike starting in 2010, followed by 50 percent toll hikes every four years mixed with annual cost of living increases is outrageous to say the least, “perhaps someone in the administration will be getting these kinds of salary increases but the average taxpayer will not”. Hatfield also went on to speculate that the increase in tolls could be passed on to NJ consumers in the costs of goods and services by those businesses who utilize the toll roads.

Pledging to never vote for tax increases Hatfield will be a fierce tax fighter in Washington on behalf of all New Jersey residents who are already bearing the burden of paying the highest taxes in the nation.
